Message from Debbie Abrahams MP

Right to be Heard – Debbie Abrahams MP

Thank you for inviting me to attend the Hear by Rights Student Conference. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend as Parliament is sitting this week, debating the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill.

Congratulations on being elected as Student Representatives for the Oldham College. Your role is extremely important as the point of contact between your fellow students and the College itself. By raising student issues and communicating student views, you make a valuable contribution to the College's decision-making and activities.

In addition, you are able to take up individual queries and suggestions on behalf of your fellow students and help to shape your learning environment at Oldham College.

As a Member of Parliament, I take up hundreds of cases and issues on behalf of the people of Oldham East and Saddleworth every month, on a wide variety of issues; and whilst I cannot always guarantee to solve every problem, I can ensure that people’s concerns are raised at the highest level and they get a full explanation of what has happened and why.

The most rewarding part of my job is representing the people of Oldham East and Saddleworth and getting a result with individual cases, as well as influencing overall Government policy which affects everyone in the long run.

I hope that you have a very enjoyable year as Student Representatives and are able to exert your voices on behalf of your fellow students.
